Origin story

During the book launch of the Expanded and Updated Disciplined Entrepreneurship by Professor Bill Aulet of MIT, the idea of creating an event to more tightly network the NESCAC schools together to advance the field at each school was born.  There are three good reasons for this:

  1. Most NESCAC schools have insufficient critical mass to sufficiently support the students in the way that MIT does. The schools are too small to provide the level of support that students get at a place like MIT.
  2. There is great talent and interest in these schools for entrepreneurship. A crystal-clear example of this is when you look at the HubSpot executive team, it was dominated by NESCAC people from the beginning.
  3. An annual event and competition would be a forcing function to drive collaboration and do things that might not be possible on an individual NESCAC campus. Nothing motivates people like a deadline, a get-together, and a bit of friendly competition.

Because MIT has so many of the NESCAC alum who have come through their programs and they also have the infrastructure to support this, MIT is willing to host the event the first year with support from all participating NESCAC schools. Future annual events might be cycled among the campuses or remain at MIT.
